What’s Happening on Long Island March 6–8? (Yes, There’s More Than You Think)
Early March on Long Island is that weird in-between season. It’s not quite spring, but winter is clearly packing its bags. One day it’s 38 degrees and you’re questioning all your life choices. The next day it’s 55 and suddenly everyone’s grilling like it’s Memorial Day weekend.
If you’re wondering what to do March 6–8, you actually have options. Real ones. Not just “let’s go to Target again.”
Let’s start with something civilized.
On Friday, March 6 at 5:00 PM, Suhru & Lieb Vineyards on the North Fork is hosting Friday Night Music. Picture this: live music, a glass of local wine in your hand, and just enough chill in the air to justify wearing that quarter-zip you love. It’s low key, relaxed, and feels like you made an effort without actually trying that hard.
If your idea of a perfect Saturday involves cheese (no judgment here), Sparkling Pointe in Southold is hosting their “Tour the World Cheese Pairings” event on Saturday, March 7 at 12:00 PM — and again on Sunday, March 8 at 12:00 PM. Wine and curated cheeses from around the globe. It’s basically a passport without the airport.
More of a throwback energy person? On Saturday, March 7, Mulcahy’s in Wantagh is hosting “Fool House — The Ultimate 90’s Party.” If you know every word to “Mr. Brightside” and still think 2003 was five years ago, this is your moment. Doors typically open in the evening, and yes, you will hear songs you forgot you loved.
If you’d rather keep things magical (literally), the Masters of Illusion show is at NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Saturday, March 7. An evening of professional magicians doing things that will make you question physics. It’s a great date night option that doesn’t involve yelling over music.
Feeling a little emo? Amityville Music Hall is hosting Emo Night Brooklyn on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 PM. It’s a DJ-driven pop-punk throwback party. Dust off the black eyeliner. Or at least pretend you still listen to Fall Out Boy ironically.
If you’re staying closer to home and want something more family-friendly, many indoor farmers and artisan markets across towns like Huntington, Sayville, and Garden City are open Saturday and Sunday from around 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Local honey, fresh bread, handmade goods — and yes, someone is definitely selling sourdough.
Sports fans aren’t left out either. With March Madness building momentum, local sports bars in Patchogue, Wantagh, Rockville Centre, and Huntington will be hosting weekend watch parties Friday through Sunday. Tip-off times vary, but the energy will be there. Wings optional but strongly encouraged.
If you want fresh air without committing to a full hike in questionable March weather, Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn and Bailey Arboretum in Lattingtown are open throughout the weekend during daytime hours. Walk the grounds, check out exhibitions, and convince yourself spring is basically here.
Art lovers can also catch the “Colors of Long Island” student exhibition happening at various art spaces across the island from Friday through Sunday. It’s always refreshing to see what young local artists are creating — and it’s a great reminder that talent here runs deep.
And finally, this is the time of year when pre–St. Patrick’s Day events start quietly popping up across Wantagh, Rockville Centre, and Huntington. Fundraisers, Irish cultural nights, and early celebrations are kicking off. The parades may be later in the month, but the spirit? That starts now.
So if you were planning on staying home because “there’s nothing going on,” consider this your gentle nudge. Long Island might not scream for attention, but there’s always something happening if you know where to look.
And if you’re out and about this weekend driving through neighborhoods thinking, “Maybe it’s time for a bigger backyard… or a different zip code…” Well, you know where to find me.
Enjoy the weekend. Spring is closer than it feels.
